Rittenhouse Square Neighborhood

William Penn's masterful plan for Philadelphia included five open space city squares set aside for the citizens so they could enjoy a "green countrie towne." It's within one of Mr. Penn's city squares, the refined Rittenhouse Square neighborhood in Philadelphia's Center City that Square 1682 calls home.

The Rittenhouse area is a vibrant co-mingling of eateries, upscale lodging, commerce, nightlife, educational and cultural centerpieces and urban living. A casual stroll through the neighborhood can carry you past the Dr. J. William White Memorial, the University of the Arts, the Walnut Street boutiques, any number of luxe day spas, a host of international financial institutions and a cross-section of churches and spiritual centers. The region is rich in diversity and natural attraction.

Inside of Square 1682 in Center City

It's within this multi-textured setting that Square 1682 welcomes its guests. Like its surroundings, Square 1682 blends an array of hues, materials and shapes inside Philly's honored Architects Building (built in 1929 by Paul Philippe Cret). Chalkboard walls with drawings by local artists complement the modern, Rubinesque artwork framing the towering translucent glass wine cellar. The curvaceous staggered block of walnut comprising the bar is suspended by exaggerated satin bronze chain link. The lounge and seating for meals is a mixture of informality - oversized club chairs, settees, couches and tuffets mixed with small and larger coffee tables - and genteel, manicured lines of wood and fabric. Throughout, natural light plays and pools around the bar and dining areas.

At Hotel Palomar Philadelphia, Square 1682 is as much an evolutionary product of its environs as it is a contributor to the style and sensibility of this Rittenhouse Square neighborhood.
